Subway Shopping

So I've been in Korea for about 6 months now, and I've only been in a department store like..5 times?  In Korea, anything imported is realllly overpriced.  I remember when I went to Hong Kong, all of their own stuff was super cheap and imported stuff.  For example, I remember going to H&M in Hong Kong, finding more stylish and cheaper pieces than back in Canada.  However, H&M, Zara, Converse, etc. are all a lot more expensive and the styles aren't very different from the ones back home.

I've resorted to shopping in subway stations....."wtf?" you ask? Yes...subway shopping..LOL

In many stations such as Gangnam (강남역), Myeongdong (명동역 - even though Myeongdong's good stuff are all right outside the station, but are mostly outdoors), Shindorim (신도림역) and my lastest love, Yeongdeungpo station (영등포역 - where Times Square is located).

In the stations, you can find many "Korean styles" all at a very low low price.  Obviously the quality isn't the best; the clothes could probably only withstand a few washes, the shoes don't all have soles that can survive the winter weather, but nonetheless cheap.  Also, keep in mind that Korean fashion and styles are in and out soooo quickly that by the time your clothes fall apart, its about time to be buy new styles anyway.  You just have to spend a little more time since one station could have SOOO many shops selling similar items.  I have a relative from Hong Kong who always buy cheap "street shoes" in HK who told me that she believes that "street shoes" in Korea are better quality.  Obviously, try to look for ones  that are "made in Korea" and keep in mind that they're not branded and even if they were, probably can't last forever...unfortunately.

When converting, 1000won is like 90cents in Canada...but since I'm not a mathematician ---1000won = $1 works for me..I just take off three zeros.

Infinity scarf - stand outside my house: 6000won (that's like $5cad)
Furry vest - Gangnam station: 10 000w (less than $9cad)
Sweater dress - Gangnam station: 10 000won (you can convert on your own now =D)

Booties I've been craving - Yeongdeungpo station: 10 000won
HELLLO! cuuute right?! - most shoes like this in Korea, EVEN in the subways are like 20 000+won - which is still cheap.  They're actually really comfortable and easy to walk in.  And did you notice the gold detailing annnnnd..leopard lining?!?! Come on! Ace was nice enough to buy me these.

More cute shoes - Yeungdengpo station: 10 000w
Also thanks to Ace (I'm spoiled..I know.....just 2 more weeks :'( LOL..jk..I'm grateful!!)

Cute-assss scarves - Yeongdengpo station: 4000w each or 3 for 10 000w - so I bought 3 =D

Simple purse - Gangnam station (Donkey): 15 000won

These are just some examples - I don't have pictures of everything I bought here..but you get the idea!

I heard a quote recently from a Youtube guru I follow, Dolcecandy87 and she said, "money can't buy you style" and I totally agree!   Just look at all these cute things you can get at a freaking subway station!!!  I also noticed the more countries I go to, the more inspired I get.  Obviously Pinterest makes it easy too but travelling is so much more fun! Now, I just need to get a real job, make more money and shop more.  (A girl can dream...can't she?)

Happy Shopping!!

xoxo
