Fireworks Festival

So yesterday we went to this fireworks festival in Seoul.  I don't know how it works exactly but apparently there's a few countries that present their fireworks together on this little "island" called Yeouido, in the middle of Seoul. We decided to go to the next station, Yeouinaru, on line 8 to find a seat on the island.

The fireworks start at 7:30pm but I was told to get there EARLY if we wanted good seats.

This is when we got off the station at 4:00pm...gets you kind of excited, no?

We bought our own Pororo mat because we didn't know that they would be selling them there.

 SO cuuute!

What's a day at the park without Popeyes?

By 5:00pm it started to get busier.

Cotton candy!

Our friends got free glasses that made a heart around every bright light that you looked at. SO COOL! The guy who gave it to them said that it would "enhance" their fireworks experience and we thought it was total BS..buuut..it was just..sooo cool!

 Getting exciiited!

 Last picture before it starts!

Here are some pictures of the fireworks.  Some had hearts, words, and happy faces but I didn't catch them.  I'm sorry that these pictures doesn't do it justice but you kind of had to be there to get the full experience.

A Fulfilling Day Outside of Canada

Not only did we have Monday off for National Foundation Day, we also had today off because it was a school holiday..3 day week!!

Whenever we have a school holiday, my co-teachers always want to do something fun where they can get out of the house but not be at work.  Some of them even lie to their husbands and say that they're at school =P shhhhhh.

Today, they decided to go hiking..I guess it's not really hiking because we didn't go ALL the way up a mountain and then go all the way back down.  We went to Seoul Zoo and apparently there's a hiking trail behind the zoo.  A lot of ahjummas and ajusshis were hiking there.  It was supposed to be a 2.5 hour hike but I think we took 3 hours =P. I thought it was just perfect because I walked enough to feel pain in my legs and get a little warm, but the trail was easy enough that even though it was my first time, I didn't have to complain.  Today's weather was perfect for this..21 degrees Celsius and sunny.

When we got the the top of this sortah steep hill.  (Real hikers will think that I'm pathetic for thinking it was steep LOL).

So pretty! Imagine this surrounding Seoul Zoo.

Just to prove I walked through this LOL.
Note: Don't wear Keds when you have to walk through all of this..I didn't have other lace-up shoes.

If your thirsty..have a drink...

...with one of these =P..or not lol

<3

When we were leaving..we saw him.

Apparently he is a show dog..he's sooo cute!!

After all the walking, we HAD to eat.  I fell asleep in the car again soooo I don't know how far we drove but we ended up in the middle of nowhere like last time and had smoked duck that we barbecued.  It was soooooooooooooooooooo good! I ate sooo much! I don't have pictures right now because I left my phone in my co-teacher's car and she just took pictures for me.  I'll post them when I get them.

After eating, we went out to have coffee again and that's where I ate a sweet potato as well.  My co-teachers were so surprised about how much I ate and said that my boyfriend would be shocked when he sees me.  "Where's my Cathy" was their impression of him.  We were all saying how happy we were and honestly..I had such a good day.  I was surrounded by people who I have only met for a month but feel like family and honestly..a 3 hour walk plus delicious food, how could I ask for more?

I also had my first squatter experience today.  I didn't want to go to the washroom because..I wasn't sure how I felt about squatting to pee (even though it's extremely common in Asia).  My main co-teacher, Mrs. Ma, took my hand and said, "don't worry Omma will go with you."  It was so cute, she's been calling herself my Korean mom for awhile, but it's the first time she said it in front of the other teachers...so I took a deep breath and went.  Not that bad at all.  Make sure you face that hump thing though. =P

Finally, one of my co-teachers invited us to her place and it was so nice! I mean not super big, but the biggest Korean apartment I've seen so far and it was super modern.  It gave me a lot of interior decorating ideas, very inspiring.  I don't really want to post pictures of her place up, but I will show some of you when I see you.  My co-teacher also sent me home with a bag of sweet potatoes so now I'm excited to use it with my new rice cooker.

Hope everybody else is also having an amazing day!

xoxo
